Our goal at Dewey Chess is for each player to participate at a level that is challenging AND fun for that player. For some kids, our Monday morning club is “just right;” others crave a bigger challenge. Students who show proficiency in 10 basic chess skills may join the Dewey Chess Team, which attends local, state, regional and national tournaments. Dewey teams and individual players frequently win trophies (see the trophy case in the Dewey lobby). Our team always has fun, and players make friendships across grade levels. The team meets on Tuesdays evenings from 7:00pm to 8:30pm at Dewey for sessions with a chess tutor. There are additional costs for this program, and parents commit to taking turns supervising the evening program and sharing supervision and carpooling at tournaments.
